To improve your Alteration skill, do the following. Make sure that you have Open Average Lock, Open Easy Lock, and Open Very Easy Lock. If you do, find a chest. In case that this chest requires the easy spell, use the very easy one instead. Also make sure that your level of Magic is enough.
Want to get more Conjuration skill? Then when you are in the town of Bruna, go east and then southeast to find a shrine. As soon as you find it, activate it. It will spawn points and weapon for you! Note that it is possible to repeat this every 24 hours, so if you wish you can do it to increase your Conjuration points.

Improve your Alchemy when you feel that the monsters are more powerful than you are. Try to make potions which damage health and use them along with the weapon you have. When you hit your enemy, be careful enough and it's better to escape from that place where your opponent is going to die.
To fire on your enemies without any danger for you, go to the right where the gate is and find there a fence and a stone. Jump on the stone and look for a thing that must be above and it is possible to jump on it. Being on top, you will be able to fire on your opponents, but when you have to fight mags and archers stay on the ground. This hint works if you have 30 points in Acrobatics.
